  • welllll - ade - 2006-07-29 6:17:15pm

I voted for five of the six and the other one was just off my list. Not a bad selection, all fairly well written. These semis do sort the wheat from the chaff

  • Good show and yes at times hella annoying! :o)) - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 6:18:26pm

Most of the qualifiers I deserved I reckon, voted for five of them. My douze however did not make it, but that always happens in semis. :o)) My ten and eight made it though! :o) Congrats to those who made it and I'm sorry for your loss, those who didn't. But this was an amazingly tough semi so don't feel too bad. :o)

    • ARE* deserved [R] - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 6:19:23pm
    • LOL......my 12, 10, 8, 7 points didn't even qualify. So much for being mainstream :-))) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:22:24pm
      • Your 7 *did* qualify btw :) [R] - Harrow - 2006-07-29 6:23:50pm
        • So it did. :-))) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:28:17pm
      • my 12-10-7-6 didn't qualify!!! (even though i was quite sure my 12 pointer wouldn't possibly qualify!) [R] - orionas - 2006-07-29 6:24:40pm
  • I see my top 2 got through but there is one I am disappointed that never made it! - juliejWHAMBAMBOOM!!!! - 2006-07-29 6:22:37pm
    • Alexander!!! - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:25:50pm

PLEASE tell me you didn't write "Mr. A"...although I have good news for you if you did

      :-)))

      • lol I'm not really allowed to tell am I? :o))) [R] - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 6:28:31pm
        • Me neither...so we'll wait a bit longer :-))) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:29:17pm
          • lol [R] - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 6:29:50pm

Whoever wrote "Mmm...Brain!"
Posted by Jonas on 2006-07-29 6:25:18pm

you really should have made the final!

Boo on all of you for not voting enough for it ;) Boo! Boo! (I'm feeling very greek now) Boo!

;)))

  • I agree 100%!!! (and i am greek!) [R] - orionas - 2006-07-29 6:26:13pm
  • Well I'm sure one of your other entries *will* make it :-))) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:26:45pm
    • Well, obviously, cause I'm already in the final ;-) [R] - Jonas - 2006-07-29 6:27:19pm
      • Hence "one" :-) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:28:00pm
  • It was one of my faves too... :(( [R] - Lota - 2006-07-29 6:28:13pm
    • I think it (and some others) failed because in spite of being the most well-written and professional one... - Jonas - 2006-07-29 6:33:18pm

...it didn't have that many obvious rofl-lines.

I'm happily surprised about "The tasty Moussaka" though...it was very professional and managed to qualify without using cheap tricks ;)

      • I also have an inkling I know who wrote that one too! [R] - juliejWHAMBAMBOOM!!!! - 2006-07-29 6:34:35pm
      • The best written one indeed didn't qualify, but it sure ain't "Brain" [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:38:57pm
        • Well, I also think "On again... off again" was one of the smartest ones in this semi :-) [R] - Jonas - 2006-07-29 6:44:17pm
      • Of course that one qualified - RogerF - 2006-07-29 7:59:33pm

Saint Delia gets a mention. Hopefully this a sign that Norwich have a great season in store :-)

  • Whoever wrote Barbie and Ken.... - Geert - 2006-07-29 6:48:18pm

    I ROFLed and loved it!

I'm surprised Pasema didn't make it either!

    • me too! [R] - RogerF - 2006-07-29 6:57:39pm
  • Yep, a great lyric - RogerF - 2006-07-29 6:57:10pm

It probably should have got more points from me than it did. But it was such a tough semi to rank!

  • whoever wrote it must be in mmmm....Pain! But I agree with Jonas. [R] - rich - 2006-07-29 7:34:35pm
  • I agree! Biggest tragedy of the 2st semi! soooo good! [R] - carly in lund - 2006-07-29 7:55:33pm
Are we allowed to actually say where our points went now? - juliejWHAMBAMBOOM!!!! - 2006-07-29 6:29:50pm
  • No :-) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 6:30:23pm

I'm very surprised that 150 points isn't enough to qualify...although I'm guessing that the number will be lower for
Posted by Jeremy on 2006-07-29 6:40:40pm

the next 2 semis.

Just a hunch

:-)

  • I'm not. - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 6:47:47pm

Last year with slighly less voters and slightly less songs sharing the pot:

    Semi 1:
    6. This Song Is Shite 150
    7. How? 145

    Semi 2:
    6. My Song;) 153
    7. Slice Of Bread 149

Last year, of course, top 8 qualified but top 6 was always going to be tougher to reach. The front runners weren't supposedly as clear in semis 2 and 3 so you might well be right that the 7th placed songs got less points there. We'll see soon enough. %-)

  • *sniff* i am SO sad that my favorite entry of the 1rst semi DIDN'T qualify!! i was so sure it would [R] - angelos - 2006-07-29 7:10:13pm
  • 2nd semi qualifiers.... - Harrow - 2006-07-29 7:00:15pm
    • Hmm - ade - 2006-07-29 7:02:50pm

Total reverse. Last semi I voted for five of the six, this time just one, from memory

    • Wow...5 of my 6 predictions were spot on :-)) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:04:03pm
      • 5/6 of mine too. - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 7:07:33pm

And once again the one I got wrong finished 7th. I'm nearly certain I haven't predicted the last semi as well. For some reason it seemed far more difficult to predict.

        • And as I thought, the 7th place got much less than its counterpart in Semi 1 :-) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:10:10pm
    • All I'll say is I'm pissed. lol - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 7:12:05pm

My douze once again didn't make it while the semi was so weak, it should have been hella obvious! lol I still gave points to four of the qualifiers but usually quite low ones. Shame! :o)

    • :-( - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:12:31pm

No "Brokeback Twist" nor "I Sue" nor "Songs Like This"

      • One of them actually finished much higher than I thought it would. - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 7:19:29pm

That being Brokeback Twist. IMO surprisingly high a score for such an unfitting text. Obviously many people wanted to reward the idea nevertheless but I failed to find a way to enjoy it. :-\

        • I agree....VERY well written, and totally out of synch with the original. Pity :-( [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:21:56pm
          • Well, i agree here too [R] - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:28:14pm
      • :( - Amutrejk - 2006-07-29 7:20:17pm

I would love to see "I sue" and "Songs like this" in the final

    • Some good songs gone out - but still relatively happy - just praying for 3 particular songs in semi 3 to make it x [R] - David in Hull - 2006-07-29 7:14:00pm
    • And i think there is a real stinker in the selected from semi2 [R] - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:16:25pm
      • Have to say I love em all :-) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:18:37pm
        • Imagine how much i dislike it... - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:21:03pm

when i read it i thought: "wow, this is that bad that i could have written it myself"

          • LOL!!! - Yair - 2006-07-29 7:22:15pm

            *mwah*!

          • LOLOL!!!!!!!!!!! [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:22:28pm
      • Only 1? I have 3! - sorry no offence to any of the finalists [R] - David in Hull - 2006-07-29 7:20:19pm
      • Only one? I found three! [R] - Richard_CT - 2006-07-29 7:21:13pm
    • I'm more disapponted with the result in this one,,, [R] - Amutrejk - 2006-07-29 7:18:26pm
      • Me too, but there's a plus side, - Yair - 2006-07-29 7:25:04pm

voting in the final has just been made easier for me.

        • Not for me...quite the opposite. I hope the final isn't a stinker and something brill comes forward [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:27:00pm
    • what!!??? my favorite ALC entry only 2nd last? *sniff* :( [R] - angelos - 2006-07-29 7:23:24pm

Amazing.

My ASFB-, ALC-, BFC- & BOTY- results are almost all the same, equally bad in the outcome ranking.

Am I predictable, or what? :-)

  • I didn't vote for the BFC, ASFB, BOTY winners either :-) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:28:18pm
    • I never have voted for any winner in any contest either :-) [R] - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:29:29pm
      • Not even for the hotties? [R] - kURt B - 2006-07-29 7:31:35pm
        • Yeah, i think i voted Charlize :-) [R] - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:45:40pm
          • 6 points :o) [R] - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 8:25:42pm
      • The only winner I gave 12 points to.. - Amutrejk - 2006-07-29 7:37:07pm

        ..was you!! :)

        • And you were my only one :-) [R] - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:44:19pm
          • Something completely different: - Amutrejk - 2006-07-29 7:47:50pm

Should I've written "were you", I wrote "was you"...

I'm completely terrible when it comes to english grammar :(

            • Actually "was you" is correct because it refers to "the only winner" [R] - Yair - 2006-07-29 7:49:08pm
              • Thanks! :)) [R] - Amutrejk - 2006-07-29 7:51:25pm
                • Fancy a three-way-hug? :-) [R] - LoboinMadrid - 2006-07-29 7:52:40pm
    • Coming to think of it, ALC is quite unique in that sense - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 7:31:07pm

I voted for both At The Tesco and Chernobyl (be it low points, 4 and 5 respectively), but those are the only winners I've voted for, including two BFC editions, ASFB and BOTY... Interesting. :o)

Greetings from Chicago ... sitting in my hotel room moaning about ...
Posted by Thomas pissadancing on 2006-07-29 7:56:58pm

... the tragedy that is "Je T'Adore"! What a shame! What a disgrace! Whoever wrote this gem, I feel forever sorry for you!

And "Pissadansen" - if only it had been drawn into another semi, it would be up there with the best of them.

As for the rest - as expected, I'm still a mainstream voter (if not writer ;).

  • LOL! Hope you're keeping cool, the weather there is supposedly horrible. Enjoy the fab jazz clubs tho :-)) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 7:58:41pm
  • what about "barbie and ken" or "please i need help"? both lovely entries!! :) [R] - angelos - 2006-07-29 7:59:46pm
    • I prefer the 2 he mentioned :-))) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 8:00:18pm
    • Well, they did nothing for me, obviously - but there are others which I had hoped would do a lot better ... - Thomas - who will fish me? - 2006-07-29 8:06:18pm

... the poor soul who is behind "Granny On Speed" - let me hug you and kiss you all over for that most wonderful of intros you wrote. You got me in tears.

Can't see how this failed big way while the pleasant, but hardly original "Everything The Culinary Remix)" made it straight to the final in such a competitive semi!

And I can't believe that a theme as worne out as McCauls can still make it to the top! It's well written, sure, but ... congrats, anyway to both of you.

What about "No Gay Impossible?" One of the best parodies of gay illusions I've read in a long while ...

Really happy for most of the qualifiers, though!

      • Semi 1 was indeed very competitive... - Richard_CT - 2006-07-29 8:13:53pm

... and I share your surprise about Everything (Culinary Remix.)

But then there was one song in Semi 2 that I thought was sure to qualify.... and it didn't.

        On to the final, eh?

  • Wait, *another* MB comes to Chicago while I'm in Sweden. This is *so* unfair! [R] - carly in lund - 2006-07-29 8:00:11pm
  • I agree 100% :(( [R] - Yair - 2006-07-29 8:00:50pm
  • Je t'adore was fab fab fab!!! will (hopefully) remain an all times favorite ;) (for me) [R] - angelos - 2006-07-29 8:03:05pm
    • One of the very best entries ever to grace ALC! [R] - Thomas - who will fish me? - 2006-07-29 8:08:08pm
      • Strongly disagree.....it did FAR better than it deserved [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 8:09:11pm
        • I'm sure you would have appreciated it giving it a 2nd, 3rd or maybe 4th thought ;) [R] - Thomas pissadancing - 2006-07-29 8:17:29pm
        • I thought it was inspired!!!!! [R] - juliejWHAMBAMBOOM!!!! - 2006-07-29 9:46:59pm
      • A good effort, but I'm not sure that it was worth 10 points per word! :-) [R] - Nick D. - 2006-07-29 8:21:11pm
        • LOL!!! [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 8:22:43pm
  • I loved it too! [R] - juliejWHAMBAMBOOM!!!! - 2006-07-29 9:46:23pm
Our last 6.... - Harrow - 2006-07-29 8:00:09pm
  • Wow. Can't say I expected this six to qualify. Seems we'll have a corker of a final :-))) [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 8:01:58pm
  • And WOW. We have a null pointer....that sucks :-((( [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 8:04:11pm
    • We had 2 with 1 day left of voting [R] - Harrow - 2006-07-29 8:05:07pm
      • Is this an ALC first? [R] - Jeremy - 2006-07-29 8:05:48pm
        • No, Elin got a 0 in 2004 with Shame On You [R] - Harrow - 2006-07-29 8:06:30pm
  • yay for the pigs [R] - ade - 2006-07-29 8:06:03pm
    • tsk!inside your messages, ade! :) [R] - Harrow - 2006-07-29 8:06:46pm
  • The most pleasing results of the 3 semis! - Well done to ALL qualifiers! [R] - David in Hull - 2006-07-29 8:08:37pm
  • Many :-))))s but also a few :-((((s for - Yair - 2006-07-29 8:12:31pm

    Food and Chow Mein :(

    • Then again ... - Thomas pissadancing - 2006-07-29 8:16:25pm

... "Chow Mein" would have had a hard time in the final with "Free Language" qualifying.

As for "Food", it was in my top 10, but it didn't add any new and exciting aspects to an overdone theme.

      • I found it as a parody on that overdone theme! [R] - Yair - 2006-07-29 8:21:02pm
        • Ah ... finally I got it! - Thomas pissadancing - 2006-07-29 8:26:02pm

Well, I liked it, but not enough. Some hilarious misunderstandings about who is who in our last exchange of mails, by the way! ;)

          • More the reason to look forward to the revelation show :) [R] - Yair - 2006-07-29 8:33:24pm
      • IMO... - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 8:25:19pm

..."Chow Mein" did the same thing far better though. It had something borrowed but, most importantly, something new too. Each line created some kind of an hilarious though irrational image. The text was merely an indiscriminate collection of such lines with nothing to do with each other but that only added to the contrast. The genre isn't my favourite but the text was well done.

"Free Language", however, didn't reach the same, just IMO, of course. Voters obviously disagreed.

        • "Chow Mein" features a killer line in ... - Thomas pissadancing - 2006-07-29 8:30:41pm

          "If you’ll share the car,
I would surely call it my home."

          World class!

          • I loved the moose/boobs "rhyme" the most + Kalle Holmgren - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 8:34:59pm

I just fail to understand how it's possible that once I finally find a nonsense text I like it doesn't even reach the top half of its semi. :(

            • That too, and I also loved "Soap-On-A-Rope™"! [R] - Yair - 2006-07-29 8:38:08pm
              • Of course. :) [R] - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 8:38:38pm
              • my fave, too :) :) [R] - carly in lund - 2006-07-29 8:45:23pm
            • You want to understand? - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 8:40:12pm

Sam-e-ach is three syllables, in my world Chow Mein is actually two. That slightly ruined it for me, at least. :o) And I love nonsense texts! :o))

              • Well ... Chow: one! ... Me ... two! ... -in ... three! - Thomas pissadancing - 2006-07-29 8:46:01pm

I still don't know what it means, though ... :)

                • Well, Chow: one!... Mein: two! lol - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 8:48:02pm

It's either a Chinese dish or one of those little dogs. lol Not sure. :P

                  • a chinese dish ;-) [R] - carly in lund - 2006-07-29 8:48:40pm
                    • Does it contain dog by any chance? :P lol JK. [R] - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 8:50:53pm
                      • Save the dogs, save the dogs! [R] - Yair - 2006-07-29 8:52:27pm
                        • lol ;o) [R] - Alexander-NL - 2006-07-29 8:53:45pm
                • http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Chow_mein [R] - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 8:48:21pm
              • The 'meach' part is ambiguous enough to be covered by one or two syllables IMO. [R] - Timoteus - 2006-07-29 8:48:04pm

Soooooooo...the biggest loser of the C/A's has to be Torneo, and the winners are Moja Stikla and to my utter surprise

Germany 82, which is so old

And the last qualifiers saved the fate of the gay-based entries, otherwise we'd only have one.

semi 2: my top 2 qualified, just 2 other qualifers got points (but not that much) .. highest non-qualifier was 'Je t'adore, but you told me no eh bien zut alors' .. ;-)

...and that is whether many voters gave One Point exactly that - 1 point -AND how well the author of One Point managed to keep his/her promise of giving two points back.

I actually considered giving the text six points for the fun of it regardless of whether I found it worth more/less/any to be able to claim a douze (and complain if I didn't get one) but then I realised the text didn't promise double the amount back, it promised two points. :-( :P

  • was that pruzzo-timotean? *giving it another try to understand* [R] - angelos - 2006-07-29 8:57:47pm
