Home Composed Song Contest 2000
Contest overview
The 2000 Home Composed Song Contest was organised by Tony Olsen from Grindsted in Denmark, following his victory with "Denne sommer" the previous year. Unlike his previous hostings in 1997 and 1998, this time Tony also participated in the competition he was organising.
With the contest now having a website for the first time (on Geocities!), all of the songs were made available to download and there was an internet voting feature. A modest total of four sets of votes were received, with the top three positions being taken by B.G.H.B.'s "The Cold" (1st) and "Bad Day" (2nd) followed by "50 Jahre sind kein Pappenstiel" by Peter Reinders. However, this vote was for entertainment purposes only and it would be some years before an internet vote would become an integral feature of the HCSC scoreboard.
What really mattered, then, were the votes of the 13 European juries who decided the winner of the 2000 Home Composed Song Contest. This year, as well as the nine composers' juries, the organiser invited four international guest juries to vote on the songs (shown as 
to 
in the scoresheet below). The list was led by Roy Vorland of Norway, the winner in 1997, alongside previous participants Mårten Eklund of Sweden and Maria Luisa Perero of Spain, plus OGAE representative Martti Immonen from Finland.
As it turned out, congratulations were due to Danish organiser Tony, who managed to take both first and second place with the songs "Fri" and "Du" respectively - his second consecutive victory, and his third win in only three participations, a run of success that is still unparalleled in Home Composed history. There was another "first" to celebrate, too - with the largest number of juries to date, the contest saw a score of over 100 points for the first time, with "Fri" receiving 111 from a maximum 144 available.
