Contest overview

The 2001 Home Composed Song Contest was organised by Peter Reinders from Goes in the south-west of the Netherlands.

The trend started in the previous year continued, with readers of the HCSC website being asked their views upon the 2001 entries - though again, this did not count for anything in the actual contest. For the record, the internet vote was won by "De kikkers" by Peter Reinders (49 points), followed by "Ricki's Inn" by Steffi (42 points) and "Genug, genug" by Silviana (29 points).

Over to the real voting, and the juries of the nine participating entrants were accompanied by three guest juries: from Spain, Belgium and Denmark. The latter was represented by Tony Olsen, winner of the previous two editions of HCSC, who had declined to participate in this year's event and defend his title. With regular participant and HCSC founder Morten Boldt Hansen also absent, this was the first time the contest had not included at least one Danish entry.

The scoring was quite close for a while, with two songs fighting it out for the victory, but ultimately the same entry led from start to finish. In the end, congratulations were due to Achim Wurm and Ralf Olbricht (better known in HCSC as Scotty). Following on from strong performances in 1999 and 2000, their third year of participation saw them achieve victory thanks to the song "Genug, genug", performed by Silviana.

Credit was also due to the songwriting team of José Bellon and Beate Fix, achieving an excellent second place on their debut with "Ricki's Inn", and to Michael Bauer, a Home Composed regular who reached the top three for the first time - ensuring that the podium was an entirely German affair.
